Altitude Diver course description
For more information on the Altitude Diver course, read the description below.
The Altitude Diver specialty course is perfect for those who would like to go diving in mountain lakes and generally in altitudes above 400m /1200ft. Diving in mountain lakes poses some interesting challenges to scuba divers that you need to be aware of.
However, the rewards are crystal clear waters, often untouched nature, and great visibility above and underwater.
The course covers (depending on your chosen option) the following topics:
- Introduction to altitude diving
- Decompression & gas laws at altitude
- Planning your dives on the mountains
- Nitrox for altitude diving
Each course module will teach you more about altitude diving and help you become a better diver. Let’s look at each module and what it covers.
Theory basics
Before going diving in mountain lakes, we need to understand how it is different from diving at sea level.
Learn more about diving medicine, pressure at altitude, and how to plan your dives.
For a theory introduction, check out our ultimate guide to altitude diving in the blog.
Planning your dives
Dive planning is of particular importance in altitude diving.
This includes picking out a suitable location, choosing the breathing gases for the dive, and determining how to get there. Most people do not live close to the mountain lakes they plan to dive in. As such, we have to make sure not to experience great pressure differences when driving up to the dive spot.
You will plan the dives for your altitude specialty together with your instructor.
Altitude Diver Training
It’s time to dive!
After understanding the theory, planning your dives, and getting to the dive spots you can finally conduct your first altitude dive.
Since logistics are often complicated we most likely have to stay overnight so plan to spend a full weekend for your altitude diver course.
Your instructor evaluates your theoretical knowledge and diving skills throughout the course. If you passed all the modules you will receive your Altitude Diver specialty certification!
Congratulations!
Your dive instructor evaluates your skills during and after the course. Once you passed all the course modules, diving practice, and theory tests, you will become a certified Altitude Diver!
Congratulations!
Dive In Crystal Clear Mountain Lakes!
